Application
File format
Section 19 asks candidates to consider the following indications for their application file for open positions at the CNRS.
General recommendations
In order to allow a fair and effective reading of their file by the members of the Section, we strongly recommend that you:
- highlight in a concise and relevant way the main research topics, the methods or techniques used, the main results, the strengths and highlights of the application;
- ensure that all the elements are provided to judge the candidate’s contribution to the advancement of knowledge, the creation of new tools/methods and the collective tasks necessary for the proper functioning of the research. The candidate will highlight, if necessary, the progress since his previous application;
- respect the limits of pagination, a synthetic and impactful file being more easily interpreted. We recommend using a font of size at least equal to Arial 11 pt (or equivalent) and that the entire research report (typically 4 pages) and the research project (typically 4 pages) does not exceed 8 pages in total (modulations of the type 5 pages of report and 3 pages of project being possible), figures and bibliography included
Recommended structure for documents requested on the CNRS application site:
- Detailed CV: free format, but with a detailed summary explicitly distinguishing the various research activities. Remember to mention the following elements (non-exhaustive list):
- responsibilities in research management,
- scientific animation activities,
- collective responsibilities,
- participation in observation projects,
- successful observing or fundind applications,
- teaching (specify level and hourly volume),
- supervision,
- outreach and technical valuation,
- other activities of interest to the community (e.g. activities in favor of diversity, equity and inclusion, community well-being, environmental transition, open science…).
A period of interruption of scientific activities deemed important may be mentioned in the CV.
- List of publications: explicitly distinguish publications in peer-reviewed journals from other publications and communications. Also distinguish articles with major contribution from others. Within large collaborations, specify the articles as ‘corresponding author’ and those in which a major role has been played, by explaining it.
- Research report (typically 4 pages):
- context, past and present activities, skills developed.
- Research project (typically 4 pages):
- include the overall summary of the application (1/2 page),
- specify the adequacy of the project with the research activities of the requested laboratory, of the French community, as well as its international positioning.
The total length of the combined research report and research project must not exceed 8 pages (including figures and bibliography).
Letters of recommendation
For the CRCN competition (and external DR2 applications), letters of recommendation must be submitted before the closing date of the competition. The filing procedures are available via the online registration form for the competition and on this link. We ask you to limit yourself to a maximum of three letters of recommendation, preferably at least one letter from a person from the anticipated host laboratory. Section 19 does not require a letter of support from the unit’s management to be attached to the research program.
